Samurai's Honor

This episode starts with a recap of how Demitri joins up with Pyron. Pyron uses his spaceship's transporter beam to send Demitri up to his ship. Of course with Demitri being a vampire and all he hates the sun light and has to hide away as he is swept up.

Up on the spaceship Demitri demands to know why Pyron has bought him up here. Pyron explains how he wants Demitri to serve him so he can take over the world. Demitri reacts angrily and starts to fight Pyron but is beaten down rather quickly, and then agrees to serve Pyron.

And with that out of the way the episode can now finally start properly. The next scene shows us a large house on a hill where a family are playing chess and reading books, but then Demitri gate crashes the whole thing by flying through the window.

Demitri casts a spell to bring the adults under his power and then calls out to the woman saying that she's "first". Demitri promptly sucks her blood. Yes, that's right, you'd think that someone would have saved her from this kind of thing with this being a Saturday morning cartoon and all where nasty things are a no-no but Darkstalkers: Daring to be Different!

After having a good drink from the woman Demitri then decides to have some more by sucking the man's blood, and whilst this is going on a good guy finally arrives, with Donovan teleporting in from the outside.

Having managed to drain two people so far, Demitri turns his attention to the little girl. Can anyone stop this massacre? Oh, Donovan can, having finally decided to do something useful and bother to attack Demitri. Demitri tries his best but is no match against the vampire hunter.

So Demitri does what every losing bad guy does: gets himself a hostage and tells Donovan to back off. But because Donovan is awesome and doesn't give a shit about laws of cartoons, he simply zaps both Demitri and the girl with a shot from his sword. Badass.

Donovan stops his attack and Demitri decides to throw the girl out of the broken window. Demitri jumps out after her and thanks to his magic beads he saves her and then transports them both back to outside of the house, but by doing this Demitri has had time to get away.

And since this episode's title is "Samurai's Honor" I think it's about time we saw a bit of Bishamon, who in the next scene is shown meditating in his human form whilst thinking about his wife, Orin. Her spirit appears but Bishamon cannot see it and longs for the day when he can hear her voice again, if he could only get rid of the curse he has. Demitri then appears saying how Donovan is after him and that Bishamon must fight. Bishamon disagrees at first but Demitri says that Donovan's sword would be a worthy match for Bishamon's cursed blade in a fight to the death, so Bishamon agrees.

Meanwhile Harry is about to show Felicia a spell he's being working on but before he can Donovan teleports in saying he needs their help, and presents Amanda, who has been "spell-shocked" by Demitri and thus can't talk or anything (he found out her name by searching through items at her house) and follows Donovan around. Donovan says that he wants Harry to look after her and try to break the spell she has whilst he goes off to find and finish his battle with Demitri.

Donovan tries to use his sword to find his opponent but can't, and then realises that when he shot Amanda with his sword earlier on, she absorbed it's aura finding power and that she must go with him. Felicia says how dangerous it is for a little girl to be caught up in Donovan's fights but he says that they must be their to protect her, and then teleports out. With no other choice but to follow him, Felicia and Harry go through the teleport too.

Upon arriving where Demitri is suppose to be Donovan finds Bishamon instead. Donovan says that he has no quarrel with Bishamon as he is not a Darkstalker, and after a bit more chat we get to see a bit of back story to Bishamon.

Bishamon reveals how he was trained to be a warrior ever since he could walk, and over the following years he grew to become a great samurai warrior who won countless battles and had never been defeated. However, one day a new shogun was appointed and Bishamon's army was led by evil. The new shogun made a deal with demons to create an evil sword which was given to Bishamon. When Bishamon used this sword, he became locked in an ancient bell.

We then get some more reused footage from the first episode showing how when Pyron came back to Earth, he used to Demitri to track the other Darkstalkers and Bishamon was eventually freed from the bell.

With his past now explained Bishamon says that Demitri was the one that freed him so he must serve him, and starts to fight Donovan. Up on a ledge Felicia, Harry and Amanda are watching the fight when suddenly Amanda starts to glow and tries to warn Harry that a Darkstalker is close by but Harry ignores her.

And thanks to Harry being ignorant Demitri shows up, knocks Harry and Felicia off the ledge and then takes Amanda. Back down below Bishamon is losing the fight but Donovan says that he does not wish to destroy him and asks him to end the fight. But then Demitri appears holding Amanda and threatens to suck her blood unless Donovan puts down his sword.

Demitri orders Bishamon to cut Donovan's head off, but he can't and tries to resist the evil's swords wish to carry out the deed. He tells Donovan to strike now and so Donovan uses his sword to strike the cursed blade, destroying it completely.

Demitri is about to suck Amanda's blood but Harry and Felicia stop him just in time. Meanwhile Bishamon believes the he is free from the curse that he has had for so long and stops his fight against Donovan. Both he and Donovan turn their attention to Demitri.

With everyone about to gang up on Demitri, he cries out to Ship to transport him out of there. Donovan swings with his sword but just misses his teleporting target, who manages to get away from him again.

The spirit of Orin (Bishamon's wife) then appears, but whilst everyone else can see her, Bishamon cannot and asks why since the curse has been broken. The spirit takes over Harry's body and talks through it to Bishamon, explaining that whilst the curse has been broken, Bishamon must now fight on the side of good, one day for each day he spent serving Demitri to truly be free.

With his new task ahead of him Donovan says that his sword has picked up the aura of another sword that Bishamon must get. Bishamon states he will not rest until he finds it and goes off to find his new weapon, whilst the others teleport back to where they were before.

Donovan says that he will take care of Amanda, an idea which doesn't please Felicia but Donovan says that as long as Demitri still lives, his and Amanda's fates are still intertwined, but Demitri's destruction will be very soon. He then takes Amanda and teleports out, ending one of the better episodes of the series.

The first couple of minutes or so of the episode is, of course, simply reused footage from "Out of the Dark". My guesses for this is because they either wanted to just recap on who Demitri is, or, more likely, they just needed some extra footage as the script wasn't quite long enough, and instead of adding more fight scenes or whatever they took the lazy route and just reused old footage. However this creates a continuity error, since the reused footage has the original version of Demitri who has pupils, but he doesn't have pupils for the rest of the episode.

The same goes for the part showing Bishamon being released from the bell, that was also taken from "Out of the Dark".

Why is it that in the recap footage Demitri has to hide from the sun but in the fight scene between Bishamon and Donovan, which is in daylight, he doesn't seem to mind at all?

Fear the wrath of Demitri!

This is what he looks like when he's putting people under his spell just before sucking their blood. So happy.
