Characters

There aren't many characters in the first game, meaning there aren't many characters in this anime, either. Which is good, because it means it didn't take me that long to write up this page. Ha!

Andy Bogard witnessed his father's murder at the hands of Geese Howard, and for the ten years that have passed since that day he has done nothing but train in the art of Koppoken and become one of the world's strongest fighters. Although he isn't shown to be arrogant, he is rash and is far too desperate to defeat Geese, which leads to him almost being killed by him. Whilst he survives this attack he is not taught the Hakkyoku-Seiken secrets and at the end of the movie he decides to return to Japan to go on a training journey. His younger self is seen at the beginning of the movie and looks like this. (Due to a possible colouring error, Andy has blue hair here whilst in the games he has blonde, like his brother.)

Billy Kane is Geese's right-hand man and is the previous winners of Geese's King of Fighters tournaments. This might be because he is always seen using a staff in battle which he can use to lethal effect, including one move where he strikes his opponent in the chest which can defeat most people instantly. He fights against Andy to try and stop him from getting to Geese, but underestimates his opponent and is defeated by him with a powerful strike to the chest.

Geese Howard used to train with Jeff Bogard under the supervision of Tung, but he became outraged when Tung chose Jeff over him to receive the secrets of the Hakkyoku-Seiken school. So in return for this, Geese killed him and then had his men steal the Hakkyoku-Seiken scroll so he could just learn the moves himself. Ten years later, Geese rules South Town but finds out about the Bogard brothers and despite the attempts of his men, they eventually challenge him to combat. Whilst Geese defeats Andy, he cannot beat Terry's new Hakkyoku-Seiken Sempu kyaku and is seemingly killed when he drowns in a pond. His younger self is seen at the start of the movie and looks like this. (This death is completely different to the game, as he is booted out of his own skyscraper.)

Hopper is another of Geese's men and was made specifically for the anime. He is mostly seen gathering information for Geese about Terry and Andy, and was also the one to accidentally shoot Joe in the shoulder when he was trying to kill Andy.

Jeff Bogard was Geese's training partner and even though he was weaker than him, their master, Tung, chose him to be the one to learn the secret techniques of the Hakkyoku-Seiken school. Sometime after this he also adopted two orphaned children, Terry and Andy, but their lives were shattered forever when Geese returned for revenge. Jeff is stabbed in the back and then Geese arrives to fight him, and because of his injury he is no match for his former friend who kills him quickly with a flying punch to the gut.

Joe Higashi is a Muay Tai champion from Thailand who has been training and is good friends with Andy Bogard. He heads to South Town to compete in the King of Fighters tournament, and he also meets Terry at the Pao Pao cafe and becomes friends with him too. During the tournament he defeats Duck King and makes it to the quarter finals, but before he can enter his next fight he is shot in the shoulder, although he pulls through fine and later heads with Andy to fight Geese. After Geese's apparent death he tells Terry and Andy that someone has challenged him for his Muay Tai title and that he must head home to Thailand to defend it.

Lily was a poor little girl until Geese Howard, for reasons not exactly known, decided to take her in and now she enjoys the high life. She was also present at Jeff's death and that is where she saw Terry for the first time, and ten years later she and him get together. She also plays a part in helping Terry, Andy and Joe escape from Geese's men, but this comes to the cost of her life as when Geese finds out what she did, he kills her by blasting her out of a window with one of his Reppuken projectiles. Her younger self appears at the start, and looks like this. (Lily is another character who was made just for the anime. She does not appear in any of the games.)

Raiden is a professional wrestler who is employed by Geese to enter his tournaments and defeat any new challengers. He is seen defeating Michael Max and then later appears to help Billy fight Andy and Joe and stop the two of them from getting up to where Geese is. He takes on Joe and at first has the upper hand, but he is distracted when Billy is defeated and whilst he isn't paying attention, Joe uses his hurricane upper move to beat him. (At one point, the leaderboard showing his position in the tournament has his name mis-spelt as "Riden". What's funny is that the game also makes this mistake at one point, too.)

Richard Meyer has also entered the King of Fighters tournament, and takes on Terry Bogard. Terry defeats him by using his rising tackle move and then kneeing him in the chest. Despite this, he is one of the few minor characters in the anime to actually speak, so he does better than Michael Max and Duck King at least. (In the games, he is also in charge of the Pao Pao cafe, but this isn't made clear in the anime to whether or not he works there).

Ripper is another of Geese's thugs and works with Hopper in finding out info on who Terry and Andy are. Like Hopper, he was also a character created specifically for the anime, but he isn't seen as much as the other thug.

Terry Bogard saw his father die at the hands of Geese Howard. After ten years of training, he returns to South Town to defeat his father's murderer for good. Tung sees that he is the better of the Bogard brothers and chooses him to be the one to learn the secret Hakkyoku-Seiken techniques, and as Terry eventually challenges Geese to a one on one battle, he defeats him by using the Sempu kyaku. After this, Terry vows to go on a journey to improve on his attacks, and at the end of the movie he is seen leaving South Town on a boat.

Tung Fu Rue is a master of Hakkyoku-Seiken techniques and had trained Geese Howard and Jeff Bogard, and chose Jeff to learn the secret moves. When Geese kills Jeff, Tung tells Jeff's two young sons to train for the next 10 years and then come back to find him so he can pass on to one of them the same secret techniques he taught Jeff. And 10 years later, Tung ends up being critically injured by Billy Kane, but before he passes away he quickly teaches Terry what he wanted to know.

CAMEOS

Duck King: Defeated by Joe in the tournament, doesn't look that much like his game counterpart though.

Hwa Jai: A Muay Tai champion humiliated by Andy Bogard in the tournament, as he is defeated within a few seconds.

Michael Max: Is defeated by Raiden in the tournament. He has a white shirt in the anime rather than a yellow one.
