Introduction

With Street Fighter II being a massive hit in arcades, soon enough there was a live action movie released in 1994. Despite the fact that the game's popularity draining, Capcom allowed an animated series to be made. The series consists of two seasons, with each season consisting of thirteen episodes, with twenty six episodes in total. Each episode lasts around twenty minutes, and would have filled a typical US half hour slot.

The cartoon's first season uses characters mainly from Super Street Fighter II. Guile is the main character, like in the live action movie, and he leads a team called "Street Fighter" who counter terrorist threats. The main bad guy is usually always Bison. Guile usually gets help from Blanka and Chun-Li, but quite a few other of the famous Street Fighter characters get to help out as well. The big difference between the cartoon and the live action movie is the fact that the characters look like their game counterparts a lot more, plus they get to use all of their special moves - sonic booms, hadokens, psycho crushers, etc.

Sadly, this show is the source of much hatred by the Street Fighter community. Someone, somewhere stated that it was crap, and this just spread like wildfire all across the world. Most people haven't seen a single episode, but just believe it's the worst show ever created. Well guess what?

It's not that bad at all.

If you don't give a damn about the canon and character story lines, you'll probably enjoy watching this cartoon. I bought it just for the Final Fight episode originally for Final Fight Online, and expected it to suck, but it was actually fairly decent and as I watched the other episodes I realised that it wasn't that bad at all.

So give this show a try - it's not as bad as people say.
