Transformers - The Movie
| |
Meanwhile Hot Rod finds himself underwater and alone, with no sign of Kup or any of the Dinobots. After having to destroy many metallic fish which try to tear him apart, Hot Rod hears Kup and finds that a giant robo-squid has him. Hot Rod attacks the squid and forces it to retreat when he shoots one of it's eyes out. Kup has been damaged pretty badly any Hot Rod grabs his body and broken parts and takes them up to the surface so he can start some repair work.

Back with Ultra Magnus and co. again, the ship can't land normally any more and instead the Autobots have to make an emergency landing. They manage it and whilst the ship suffers some interior damage it's still flyable and with some repairs, they can still use it to get to Cybertron. As the Autobots prepare to head outside to start work on the ship Arcee finds an exo-suit and gives it to Daniel.
Daniel gets to test out the exo-suit, which basically makes him a transformer as the suit itself can transform, which we'll see in a bit. The Autobots then head outside and with no signs of life around, they start to repair their ship. What they don't see is that the planet's inhabitants popping out of all the rubbish around, who try to work out if these new guys who've landed on their world on friend or foe.
Once again with Hot Rod, Kup's repairs are completed and he's as good as new again. They start to search for the Dinobots but have to stop when several robots emerge from another part of the sea and approach them. Kup attempts to use the "universal greeting" on them, where he
says some words and then offers the robots some energon. But when he and Hot Rod run out of energon goodies to give out, the robots turn hostile, transform and attack the two Autobots.
Hot Rod and Kup are captured and taken away to find the leaders of these robots, who have also captured Arblus who we saw at the start of the film. Arblus is dropped into a pool full of piranha like robots which rip him to pieces in seconds.
The carnage greatly pleases the leader of this alien race, a
five faced being which starts to laugh when it sees what's going on. Hot Rod and Kup are thrown into a cell, and in the cell next to them is Kranix, this last survivor of Lithone. Kranix explains that they are on a world ruled by creatures called Quintessons and his home world was destroyed by Unicron, which clues the two Autobots in to what this monster planet's true name is. Kranix doesn't get to say much more to them though as Sharkticon guards rush into his cell to take him away to be sentenced.
The Autobots can only watch on as Kranix is sentenced. Despite the verdict being "innocent", just as Arblus was, he is dropped into the pool and messily devoured.
The Dinobots meanwhile have regrouped and are being led by Grimlock on a quest to find Hot Rod and Kup, but aren't having much luck. They push on down a path as they have no idea where to go, but Slag starts to get fed up with Grimlock's leadership and is about to fight him when...
...a voice says "friends find, look behind!" and out jumps a little orange Autobot. His name is Wheelie and after an initial misunderstanding with Grimlock, Wheelie points the Dinobots in the right direction to find their friends and leads them down a road towards the complex where they are being held.
Galvatron meanwhile returns to Unicron and is told that he has failed to destroy the Matrix. Galvatron says that isn't true as he destroyed Ultra Magnus by blowing his ship up, but Unicron tells him that Magnus us still alive and is on the planet of junk. Galvatron heads toward the planet with the other Decepticons to finish Ultra Magnus off once and for all.
Back on the planet of junk, repairs to the shuttle are going smoothly but soon the Decepticons arrive. The Autobot's plan to draw their enemies away from the shuttle and them double back to it are ruined when Galvatron blows the shuttle to smithereens, leaving the Autobots stranded on the planet. Scourge and the Sweeps start firing upon the Autobots whilst Galvatron and Cyclonus go after Ultra Magnus.
A few Decepticons chase after Blurr, Arcee and Daniel, but Daniel is left to fend for himself when the other two Autobots transform to get away. Daniel is then cornered by Scavenger and Shrapnel*, but he manages to finally transform his exo-suit to it's vehicle mode and smash both of the Decepticons out of the way before they can shoot him.
The other Autobots regroup and Magnus tells them that he'll try to use the power of the Matrix against the Decepticons. The other Autobots hide away and Magnus shoots the structure above them so the Decepticons can't get at them, and then he tries to open up the Matrix, but it won't. Galvatron and Cyclonus then close in.
Galvatron demands the Matrix and since Magnus won't simply hand it over, he tells the Sweeps to
end his life which they do by shooting him a lot, with Magnus unable to use the Matrix in anyway.
Magnus falls down and drops the Matrix, and as he lands he explodes into pieces.
Galvatron catches the Matrix and reveals his true intentions: he'll use it to control Unicron and make him do his bidding.
Meanwhile back with Hot Rod and Kup again, the two are sentenced before a Quintesson judge, who gives them the innocent verdict, and both of them are dropped into the Sharkticon pool. But the Autobots transform and start to circle around the bottom of the pool, sucking up the Sharkticons and preventing them from getting a meal.
After a few seconds the Autobots gain enough momentum to hurl themselves out of the pool, but the Sharkticons also eventually get out and start to attack. Kup and Hot Rod take out as many Sharkticons as they can whilst the other Quintesson guards order for the Autobots to be executed...
The Dinobots then finally arrive and after smashing down a door they start to battle the Sharkticons, who turn out to be no match for them. Despite there being lots of Sharkticons, most of them get beaten up or stomped on, with Grimlock in particular battering lots of them.
After being smashed around a bit the Sharkticons get fed up since they aren't good enough to beat the Dinobots, and Grimlock says that they should go and take on their masters instead. The Sharkticons gang up and chase after the Quintesson leader and his cronies, leaving the Autobots alone to decide what to do next.
Wheelie the saves the day by saying he knows where a ship is they can use, as long as he gets to tag along too. The other Autobots agree and Wheelie points out a weird looking spacecraft a short distance away from them, but Hot Rod isn't bothered by it's looks, as long as it can fly, they'll take it.
Back on the planet of junk things have reached an all time low for the Autobots, as not only is their new leader Ultra Magnus dead, the Matrix has been taken away by the Decepticons. The Autobots don't have much time to mourn Magnus' death though as then the inhabitants of the planet - called Junkions - appear riding on bikes, led by Wreck-Gar[1].
These new robots are also Transformers, and all can change from robot to motorcycle. The Autobots can knock them down but any damage they do to these new enemies has little effect, as they can pull themselves back together again. Wreck-Gar challenges Springer to a one on one duel but the fight doesn't last very long and then...
...Hot Rod lands the Quintesson cruiser on the planet of Junk, and the Junkions cease fighting to see who these new guys are.
Hot Rod leads his group outside and they meet up with the other Autobots, and Kup points his gun at the Junkions, but Hot Rod has a go at communicating with them by using the universal greeting. Unlike last time they tried it, it actually works here and Wreck-Gar gets all of the other Junkions to stop fighting and greet their new friends.
And after all the deaths of your favourite Autobots and other such happenings, we have a extremely awkward dance segment which thankfully doesn't last more than a few seconds. Just watch Perceptor's awkward movements.
Wreck-Gar then kindly gets the Junkions to bring all of Ultra Magnus' parts together and they rebuild him, bringing him back to life. The moment of joy in seeing their friend back from the dead is soon over though after Ultra Magnus reveals that Galvatron has taken the Matrix, but Hot Rod says they must find him. Wreck-Gar must have overheard what Galvatron said before he departed the planet as he tells Hot Rod that he's at Unicron, so Hot Rod says they must go and destroy Unicron.
Upon hearing Hot Rod's plan, Wreck-Gar and the other Junkions want to help out too and Wreck-Gar reveals a ship out of a pile of junk which he and lots of other Junkions get in, whilst most of the other Autobots get into the Quintesson ship. Both ships then take off and head towards Cybertron to take on Unicron.
The Quintessons were originally designed to be inhabitants of Unicron himself, but this was later changed. Instead, they were suppose to be guardians of Unicron, and they would destroy anyone who ever saw Unicron and got away from him. This is never mentioned in the final film but it's possibly why Arblus and Kranix are killed by them. Of course, who the Quintessons are exactly gets explained in much more detail in the third season of Transformers.
Another thing about the Quintessons is that only one of the five headed ones are seen in the movie, but in season 3 lots of them are shown. Personally I wish they'd just kept with the one multi faced one idea who would have been their leader, or something.
Wheelie was originally suppose to look something like this, and each tooth on his necklace was from a Sharkticon he killed. However, in the final version of the movie Wheelie gets no back story what so ever and just springs out of nowhere. It's never revealed at all why and how he got on the Quintesson's planet (which is named Quintessa in the third season).
Also, there was suppose to be a scene where the Dinobots ask a Quintesson guard for directions, and he points them down a path full of traps. One of the traps is in the film (the spike pit Slag nearly walks into) and another trap involved killer plants.
[1]Wreck-Gar is not named in the movie, but that is his name, as the credits show.
You may think that Springer pulls out a sword from absolutely nowhere when he and Wreck-Gar fight, but his toy actually comes with a sword. The sword forms the
rotor blades for Springer's helicopter mode, explaining why he looks so pissed off when Wreck-Gar smashes his sword in two.
You may also be wondering how Hot Rod and co. found the other Autobots on the planet of junk in the first place. This is because of the original script, where before they left Autobot City the Autobot's plan was to first head to the planet of junk to refuel, and then head to Cybertron. Without this in the movie though it's a complete mystery how the Autobots managed to find one another.
When Hot Rod lands the Quintesson ship on the planet of junk, Snarl can be seen for one last time, although you have to pause the movie at just the right time to really see him.
It's his only appearance in robot mode in the movie, too.
When Wreck-Gar first unveils the Junkion ship, he says "new improved Junkion planet!". This is a reference to the original script which had the entire planet of junk being used as a massive ship to battle Unicron, but this was changed so they just got a normal spaceship.
